OMG – I just came back from the Comox Valley Farmer’s Market where I had myself a vegan, gluten-free, sugar-free muffin from Bake Sale – a brand new company started by local mom Christa Herrling – and yes – it was delicious! No longer shall I be envious of the little ginger bread men from Hubert’s Bakery, or the awesome looking muffins from Mom’s Awesome Muffins. Now I have a place to call my very own when we go to the market. Muffins weren’t the only thing on her menu either. Today she had Vegan wheat-free brownies and cupcakes and Vegan, gluten-free cupcakes, chocolate chip cookies and pumpkin loaf – outstanding! This girl better be ready cause the Comox Valley is going to gobble up all her allergen free baking and come pounding on her door for more!
Bake Sale will be at the Farmer’s Market every Saturday and you can check out her website for order info, allergen information and prices. Welcome to the Valley Bake Sale – a much needed and appreciated addition for sure!

Ahhhh rain – so wet, so chilly so needed! Well the soups on here at Zen Zero so come on in and warm up with a piping hot bowl of Kyla’s delicious pumpkin curried stew. I personally picked the pumpkins with the help of my children at Shamrock Farm in Comox. They are a variety called Sugar Pumpkins and they are perfect for making soups and pies. If you haven’t checked out Shamrock Farm it’s a real gem of a place to bring the kids to. They loved picking out their own pumpkins to carve and my daughter Lily was all about the wide open fields of tall grass to run through. We even got to feed the goats some pumpkin which they happily devoured! If you don’t make it to the farm itself, most major grocery stores are carrying these locally grown pumpkins for you to take home this pumpkin season.
Don’t forget about our Grand Opening coming up this Saturday from 10am – 3pm. Door prizes, free wheatgrass shot with purchase, 15% off all menu items and a grand prize draw. Plus listen to 97.3 the Eagle this week for free giveaways on the air!

Well shucks – I am so very flattered. Podlings, our very favouritist children’s consignment store, has done up a lovely little review for us on their blog. Check it out HERE.
For those of you that have never been, you should stop everything and immediately make your way to 2270 Cliffe Avenue in Courtenay. There is a wide selection of fabulously maintained gently used children’s clothes, toys and furniture as well as maternity clothing. In addition to all that, they are one of the only sources of all natural waldorf inspired wooden toys and their slection of cloth pocket diapers as well as hemp and bamboo diapers is out of this world. And they’re smart too, so if you have any questions they are always there to help you out. Check them out, you won’t regret it!
