A huge congratulations to Kyla, Duston and Halen Goodness on the arrival of their newest family member who has yet to be named.  He was born at their home just this afternoon after a rather intense but speedy labour.  He weighed in at 6lbs 15.5oz and is perfect, calm and very alert.  Way to go!

Wow!  I can’t believe Christmas is just 2 days away already!

I guess we should let you know that we will be closed this Friday December 25th and Saturday December 26 for Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

As well we will be closed Friday January 1st for New Years Day.

We will continue with our regular operating hours on all the days that we are not closed.

Santa’s Workshop

santa's workshopArggghhh!  Santa’s Workshop finally gets a new home and starts campaigning for donations of toys, games, books and other new or gently used items for children this holiday season, and then the heavy rains caused the banks of the Puntledge to overflow and hundreds of toys were destroyed when their facilty flooded!

So Zen Zero and many other local businesses together with Our Big Earth have put up donation bins so anyone can drop off donations and help the less fortunate little children this holiday season to receive something special.  We encourage you to take a look around your house and see what gently used items would bring joy to a young person this year and also consider a family donation of a new toy as part of this effort.

Together we can make a difference and afterall giving is what this season is all about…

Christmas Light Up

Tags:.

The annual Courtenay Christmas Light Up, Walk the Window Displays and Moonlight Madness are all happening this Friday November 20th.  It  seems so early to me, but then again I am staring out my window at a world full of snow.  There is a part of me that dislikes participating in an event that is clearly aimed at pumping out the pre-Christmas sales over a month before Christmas.  Wasn’t it just Halloween?  Isn’t it still November?  But then my daughters found some old Christmas lights and insisted I string them up around the house.  We couldn’t stop there and brought out the Christmas music too.  My heart remembers the wonders of this magical season and I relive it through my children’s eyes.  The season of light in these the dark dark days of winter.  I have been mourning the loss of Summer, but now I am excited about trekking through the snow, building snowmen and luge tracks in our front yard.

We are lucky at Zen Zero because our parking lot houses the tree – you know – “the” tree.  The tree that will be lit up in an official ceremony this Friday.  Then we get to look out at it for the rest of the season.  That will be a nice treat.  The lite up begins at 5:30pm with a choir leading the crowd in caroling.

In addition to the tree lighting ceremony, all the stores will be open til 9pm this Friday and there will be sales and promotional stuff as well as entertainment happening up and down 5th street.  Friday is also the start of the annual Walk the Windows display contest where downtown businesses are encouraged to decorate their windows and people get to vote for which window they like the best.  I like this competition because the people who take the time to enter the contest get their name entered into a draw for their chance to win a $1000 shopping spree at a number of downtown businesses.

We have been working on a window display for our restaurant and I will give you just a teeny tiny little preview, but to see the whole thing, you’ll have to come down to view it.  Don’t worry if you don’t make it down on Friday, the competition runs until December 12th.  Here is a little taste of what you will find in our window starting this Friday:

Apple Santa & Banana Reindeer small

Yes you saw that right, that would be an Apple Santa leading his team of Banana Reindeer, Rudolf Banana in the lead of course.

We will be open on Friday til 9pm and will have a flu buster juice on special, hot apple cider of course our famous hot vegan soups and curries to warm you up.  Hope to see you there!
