Grand

grand opening group smallThank you everyone for a grand ole time on Saturday at the opening. It really felt like a party and we enjoyed celebrating our new business with everyone. It was also the first time all 4 of us owners were working together at the Juice Bar and that was a real treat. We loved giving away samples of Kyla’s yummy raw chocolate treats and we definitely saw a few new faces in asking all about what we sell. It was such a grand time that we are thinking of having a combined Open House with Zen Health Haven in 3 months, but we’ll give you more warning a little closer to the date!

Pumpkin Season

Tags:, .

pumpkin patch smallAhhhh rain – so wet, so chilly so needed!  Well the soups on here at Zen Zero so come on in and warm up with a piping hot bowl of Kyla’s delicious pumpkin curried stew.  I personally picked the pumpkins with the help of my children at Shamrock Farm in Comox.  They are a variety called Sugar Pumpkins and they are perfect for making soups and pies.  If you haven’t checked out Shamrock Farm it’s a real gem of a place to bring the kids to.  They loved picking out their own pumpkins to carve and my daughter Lily was all about the wide open fields of tall grass to run through.  We even got to feed the goats some pumpkin which they happily devoured!  If you don’t make it to the farm itself, most major grocery stores are carrying these locally grown pumpkins for you to take home this pumpkin season.

Don’t forget about our Grand Opening coming up this Saturday from 10am – 3pm.  Door prizes, free wheatgrass shot with purchase, 15% off all menu items and a grand prize draw.  Plus listen to 97.3 the Eagle this week for free giveaways on the air!

Non-Violent Communication (NVC) workshops in French and English in Comox.

50fb9b0Are you yearning to enrich your relationships?  Longing to transform power struggles and conflict into cooperation and connection?  The Comox Valley La Leche League is putting on several workshops that will help you do just that.

There will be one short French presentation: an intro to NVC on Friday night.  Saturday and Sunday are in English.  On Saturday the workshop is an intro or refresher to NVC and Sunday is specifically for issues relating to parenting.  They are based on the work of Marshall Rosenberg’s Non-violent Communication.

“NVC provides us with the most effective tools to foster Health and Relationships”
- Deepak Chopra

The workshops are presented by François Beausoleil from Quebec.  La Leche League Leader Dominique McGrady attended his workshops in Washington over the summer and was able to invite him here on his way to teach in California.  François is passionate about contributing to the well-being of himself and others through teaching communication skills and promoting a respectful way of living interdependence.  After a career as a professional musician, he is now teaching, and consulting (in French and English) in organizations and communities internationally.  François is a certified CNVC trainer and holds an MBA degree.

Friday night’s intro to NVC is at Cape Lazo School in French on October 16th from 7-9 pre-registration $5 or $7at the door.  This event is sponsored by École Au Coeur de L’île and their PAC.

The weekend workshops run from 10-5 at Brooklyn Elementary at 1475 Noel Ave.  If you register before October 11th the cost is $65 per person, $110 per couple or for both days.  The cost will be $75 per person, $125 per couple or for both days after October 11th. To register: email mcgrady@shaw.ca or call Dominique (250) 890-9330

More info on NVC:

Most of us have been educated from birth to compete, judge, demand and diagnose – to think and communicate in terms of what is “right” and “wrong” with people.

We express our feelings as what another person has “done to us.”

We struggle to understand what we want or need in the moment, and to effectively ask for what we want without using unhealthy demands, threats or coercion.

As founder of NVC, Marshall Rosenberg says,

“What others do may be a stimulus of our feelings, but not the cause.”

At best, communicating and thinking this way can create misunderstanding and frustration, or simply keep us from getting what we want. It can also keep us from the fulfilling relationships we deserve. And still worse, it can lead to anger, depression and even emotional or physical violence.

Since developing the Nonviolent Communication (NVC) process in the 1960’s, Marshall Rosenberg’s vision has been to teach people of any age, gender, ethnicity or background a much more effective alternative. At present, over 250 certified trainers and hundreds more are teaching NVC to all walks of life around the globe.
