Curious about Waldorf Education? Want to learn more? Come check out the following presentations at Zen Zero on Feb 20th and Feb 27th. Read on for more information:
The Saltwater School, an independent Waldorf-inspired initiative, has organized two speakers for February in Courtenay.
Mary-Anne Taylor from the Vancouver Waldorf School will discuss child development and how Waldorf addresses each stage, and will also discuss the curriculum in the grades.
She has been teaching for 12 years at the Vancouver Waldorf School, and is currently taking her second class through Grades 1 to 8. She also spent time training at the Goetheanum in Switzerland.
She will be available to answer questions and provide insight into what Waldorf can offer parents, children, and communities. She will present on February 20th.
Ruth Ker of Duncan’s Sunrise Waldorf School will be here February 27th with a wealth of information about kindergarten.
Ker teaches kindergarten at the Sunrise Waldorf School, is the author of You’re Not the Boss of Me! Understanding the Six/Seven -Year-Old Transformation, and has presented around the world.
She will discuss children in the kindergarten classroom, and the kindergarten curriculum.
Both evenings will be held at Zen Zero, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., and will involve an artistic component. Saltwater representatives hope the presentations convey to parents the wonder that their children experience within a Waldorf school.
The cost is $5 for one evening, and $8 if you’d like to attend both.
Tickets will be available at the door, and are on sale at Zen Zero. All proceeds will benefit the Saltwater Education Society.
The Saltwater School is opening its doors in September and is currently accepting applications for kindergarten and Grade 1.

OMG – I just came back from the Comox Valley Farmer’s Market where I had myself a vegan, gluten-free, sugar-free muffin from Bake Sale – a brand new company started by local mom Christa Herrling – and yes – it was delicious! No longer shall I be envious of the little ginger bread men from Hubert’s Bakery, or the awesome looking muffins from Mom’s Awesome Muffins. Now I have a place to call my very own when we go to the market. Muffins weren’t the only thing on her menu either. Today she had Vegan wheat-free brownies and cupcakes and Vegan, gluten-free cupcakes, chocolate chip cookies and pumpkin loaf – outstanding! This girl better be ready cause the Comox Valley is going to gobble up all her allergen free baking and come pounding on her door for more!
Bake Sale will be at the Farmer’s Market every Saturday and you can check out her website for order info, allergen information and prices. Welcome to the Valley Bake Sale – a much needed and appreciated addition for sure!
A huge congratulations to Kyla, Duston and Halen Goodness on the arrival of their newest family member who has yet to be named. He was born at their home just this afternoon after a rather intense but speedy labour. He weighed in at 6lbs 15.5oz and is perfect, calm and very alert. Way to go!
